NSF Grant: New Microscope
UC Merced added a powerful new tool to the campus’s Imaging and Microscopy Facility. The newly acquired Zeiss LSM 880 is a state-of-the art laser scanning confocal microscope that represents a huge leap forward for the university’s imaging capabilities.

Alumnus Stays Local, Starts Green Career
Stephen Ho, a former undergraduate researcher in our lab, is back in town joining the Merced Irrigation District (MID) as a full-time Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition technician. Stephen assisted former PhD student Chelsea Arnold, who was co-advised by Prof. Berhe, in the study of hydrology and biogeochemistry of high-elevation meadows in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
