Accessibility Statement

We want this site to be usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology.

Our commitment

The Ghezzehei Soil Physics Lab is committed to making this website accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, which also aligns with Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act.

What we've done

  • Semantic HTML landmarks, a single main heading per page, and a logical heading order.
  • A "skip to content" link and full keyboard operability, with visible focus indicators.
  • Text and interface colors checked to meet the 4.5:1 (and 3:1 non-text) contrast ratios in both light and dark themes.
  • Descriptive alternative text for images, and captions for gallery photos.
  • Support for prefers-reduced-motion, so animations quiet down when your system requests it.
  • Assistive MathML for mathematical notation in publications.
  • Responsive layouts that reflow to small screens without loss of content.

Ongoing work

Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time task. We test with automated tools and assistive technology and fix issues as we find them. Some content — such as linked PDFs and third-party resources — may not yet fully meet our target, and we are working to improve it.

Found a barrier?

If you encounter any part of this site that is difficult to use, please tell us — your feedback helps us improve. Email taghezzehei@ucmerced.edu with the page address and a short description of the problem, and we'll respond promptly and work to provide the information in an accessible way.
